Tanker - Homecoming Dark Armor has all the right procs all the right things in all the right places with lots of resistance capping and defense. Tanker primaries and attack sets have complicated synergies and disharmonies that are especially pronounced on the tanker AT because survival is your first job and aggro management your second. My main is Invuln for a reason. Accept the advice given and start splurging on the recovery uniques and slotting the cheaper stuff. I certainly put this above Willpower and SR (see below) any day, and I really think if it just had more beyond damage mitigation it would be at the very top. Procs or no procs. It's almost relaxingand LOUD! I have a Shield/Dark tanker and he is an absolute beast with no end issues. Lots of cone/AOE and KD and nice damage to boot. o7. A full 0-100 heal on about a 10 sec cooldown with just 2 mobs in range. Once they get to 50, I'll worry about more elaborate slotting. So you have somewhat described a worst case scenario as goes Inv/SS. A lot of Invul tankers skip Resist Physical Damage (RPD), because you can quite viably hit the 90% smashing/lethal damage resist cap without RPD in your build. Thanks Impeach-Individual-1 2 yr. ago It left me questioning why I would play a tanker at all and left me questioning several of my characters. Needs a rework- Super reflexes. As you can see, a conventional CMA-influenced build. Willpower is still a great set, arguably one of the best ones early game, however it suffers largely due to being "outclassed" by Bio Armor in most regards. Bio/TW, for example, is probably the tanker combo abandoned most often in their early 20's, and if I got a WP/MA on my team, I'd follow the dominator instead. One thing I would add on this. Okay this is Invuln. Those numbers you screenshotted have to be in a saturated non debuff environment to achieve. I was just about to post this very thing when I saw your post. Also, realize that the amount of unalloyed, pure "Psi-typed ONLY" damage is vanishingly small. - Money making included among other things. Willpower does have extra +recovery in it but Invulnerability is superior usually. Invulnerability with Dark Melee is close to Granite toughness with none of the drawbacks. I don't know anything about dark, didnt say anything about dark. On the rad you can rotate melee core and meltdown and basically have perma capped resists. Tags - ex. I think weapon sets don't matter as much for tankers, so there's really not much point inrating them. I had to sacrifice some defense, but with DM and DN from soul mastery, I should be good to go. Ice Melee is another good set for this, albeit lower on damage. |B220B2A6429A2D8116FEBEE796EECF876FF0F30FB792FE252E2FCD45A4F29CC393E| I never felt like Stone Melee needed a rethink. Doesn't really matter but it is weird. That is an egregious mistake. I just like the durability. 5. A Brute will always out damage a Tanker. It sounds a lot like you're playing with generic IOs and not slotting appropriately. Invulnerability Tankers Soft Cap defense. after it was still fun , but frankly boring at times too. Add to Endurance Recovery is lacking on Invulnerability and SS brings not help that way either. Plus offers some soft control in the form of fear aura which -to hit debuffs. Invulnerability is a fantastic set. My Invuln Stalker has higher Def and Resist to E./N than that tank build, which does not seem right IMO, Here's a Inv/SJ. Not everyone standing back while the Tank/Brute solos it. Radiation Armor is awesome as well! It really depends on what you intend to do with the character. SR has scaling resistance baked in. YouBugger 2 yr. ago Homecoming, I will check out the forms. Stalker. But not terribly more powerful than Fire. Shield Defense is another favorite of mine although it normally "belongs" on stalkers and scrappers to me, I still quite like it for Tankers! Once I reach 50 I will make those 3 slots all Performance Shifter with the two 50's with end mod being +5 since that end mod is a nice value and that hp boost I won't miss much when exemp'd as much as I would endurance. without exploring EXACTLY how far I can push things. how fast you you do it will depend on if you went with an aoe or st centric melee set. I can not understand it otherwise. With the I24 IO changes it is possible to get decent Psionic resistance for an Invulnerability character if you want to. I'll certainly need to look into the changes, thanks for the tips Hyper. The Tanker primarily can absorb vast amounts of damage, and hold his own in a fist fight. There may be some changes in the future as I'm finding that Spring Attack's current stats make it something of a waste of power. Primaries: S/L/F/C Incarnate Soft-Capped at 50% Invincibility saturation. ------------, | Copy & Paste this data into Mids' Hero Designer to view the build | So playing Brute does not mean skipping past the issues you faced. This implements a lot of what I'm talking about. I literally had 3 sheets of notebook paper covered with all the special limitations and powers he possessed to be unkillable. Yes I'm fully aware you can get around it with teleport and turning granite on/off, but that just gets so annoying and you really have to build around its weaknesses to get it going. Having taken a Rad/Psi Tanker to 50, Ithink it was hearing all the bashing of Super Reflexes which prompted me to plan an SR tanker to begin with and that having gone down that road I decided to go whole hog and pair Titan Weapon with it. This set is MUCH better on Sentinels/Stalkers/Scrappers. Using your info and applying it to my own tank Myte who is on his way, I came up with this build which is not real expensive, provides softcap to S/L just shy for F/C and cap for En/Neng. Invulnerability Tankers Soft Cap defense. Please advise: Invulnerability is a top tier armor set for tankers, bringing much less to the table to scrappers and brutes. When fully built an Invuln/SS Tanker should not have too many endurance issues and will be really tough. Also, the Winter-O for Holds is essentially identical to the Ranged Winter-O set in terms of bonuses. Istill have so much fun with it. The final mission took around 3 hours, because it took SO long to defeat every foe, who would heal before defeat, then ressurect, then heal again before defeat, then finally be defeated. I was messing around with the planner. You wont change mine because I had 5 years of my guy under my belt. But it still doesn't stack up the way Invuln does in the end. Stone Armor this is controversial, but despite it's decent mitigation, this set is just not able to upkeep anymore. TL;DR: Super Strength sucks on Homecoming/Victory/i25 servers, Kinetic Melee isn't considered great on tankers and doesn't play well with using pool/epic/patron powers, Elec Melee and Rad Melee are solid, though Elec Melee is heavy on AoE and has lower single target DPS, while Rad is more balanced. Stone Melee is pretty decent (due to the aforementioned KB > KD enhancements). Yes, that Stone tanker wearing Granite armor will survive more types of damage but hes a slow moving brick wall. You might take a look at some of @Hyperstrikebuilds, as they're considered one of the best Tank builders in the game. Stuff actually has to be able to HIT you. All of the tanker primaries have strengths and weaknesses; you probably don't want to take a Willpower tanker to a fire farm. While a brute can do this with the right build, it is ultimately easier to make a tough tank, and the ceiling is higher for durability. Drains are anywhere from annoying to potentially deadly and even without sappers running around if I get too happy with non-stop attacking, especially if he is running Focused Awareness, he can end up detoggling. I subjectively rank it high partly because it requires so little attention. I'd also bump Willpower down to Above Average if only because of its weaker taunt aura, which is important on a Tanker. Needs a rework- Super reflexes. I'm wrestling with a quandry. Honestly, on a fully build Invuln, you've mitigated most of the problems related to drains. Tankers have a different focus, otherwise they'd be brutes. As for how people play, I try to not presume what people are doing and assume they are doing what is fun for them, though I am pretty sure the OP was not talking about engaging in the most difficult content. Tanker - Unofficial Homecoming Wiki Okay I can kinda fill in on some of the things that have changed. I have a WP/Fiery Melee tanker that I love. Invuln is a very good set, but in my opinion is not the best all around primary, as proven by the numbers. Attack sets with long, slow, painful animations get them killed because of unresponsive keys while the animations play. I just think this set has lost its place in the current meta beyond being a tank which I think is something easily achieved by other sets or party buffs for activities that require it. Ancillary Power Pools, also known as Epic Power Pools, become available to hero-aligned and villain-aligned characters at level 35. I'm not going to sit here and proclaim "Thou shalt build thy Tanker according to these Commandments"; I'm just going to give you a loose framework that you can use to make your Invuln as durable as possible. I could sacrifice some F/C and plonk a FF +Rech IO in. That was 2 glaring weaknesses in your build - it wasnt bad but late game you will have a cascade failure if you dont pick ageless with that build, and at that point your res isnt high enough to carry you through some situations if your team is weak. Provides +Max HP. Some low performers can also boost an otherwise mediocre primary into being top-tier if they are used effectively Icey Melee, for example, while definitely low-damage, can dramatically boost both the damage management of firey aura as well as it's team utility and survivability. Two of those powers filled a page each. If they were on their butts they couldn't hit you, minimizing the lesser defensive numbers. Also, for what it's worth, when it came down to building my own tank, I found that leaving Psi DEF at ~32% (one inspiration from the soft-cap) made for a more fun build.
